Seven Police Reports That Had Woburn Talking

These seven stories and  entries had people talking on our Facebook page and readers clicking links this week.

 

Aug. 12 – At 1:34 a.m., police responded to Rumford Park Avenue for a report of 10 vehicles’ tires being slashed. According to police, there was a party at the residence and when people left, they found their tires had been cut.

At 7:01 a.m., a Jefferson Avenue business reported five vehicles with slashed tires.

 

Aug. 10 – At 4:54 p.m., William J. Hinchcliff-Metrano, 23, of 32 Rumford Park Ave., was arrested and charged with assault and battery (domestic), larceny under $250 and two outstanding warrants. According to police, Hinchcliff-Metrano was subdued by witnesses when police arrived and took him into custody. Police said witnesses reported Hinchcliff-Metrano ran into the bathroom shower when confronted about stolen cash. Witnesses followed him in, saw that he was holding cash and continued to question him. Witnesses told police the 23-year-old became violent, clawing and scratching at the victim. When police arrived, two people had subdued Hinchcliff-Metrano, who was taken into custody.  

 

Aug. 13 – At 1:56 p.m., a Bridgewater man reported his wife had accidentally left her purse at the Dunkin’ Donuts in North Woburn earlier in the day. According to police, the man retrieved the purse later in the morning and found “a white powdery substance,” believed to be powdered donuts residue, and greasy fingerprints in the purse. A bottle of prescription drugs was missing from the purse, said police. An officer spoke to the store manager, who explained that an employee did go through the purse—against store policy—and was terminated.

 

Aug. 15 -  is cracking down on impaired driving as part of a national campaign stretching into Labor Day.

Woburn, along with 128 other Massachusetts departments, will conduct an "intensive crackdown on impaired driving" between Aug. 15 and Sept. 3 as part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

 

Aug. 15 - A Woburn woman reportedly attacked police officers overnight in what appeared to be a drug-induced episode, said police.

At 11:28 p.m., Beatrice Ortiz, 27, of 6 Kimball Court Apt. #114, was arrested and charged with assault and battery (domestic), assault and battery on a police officer (three counts), malicious damage to a motor vehicle (police cruiser) and resisting arrest.

Aug. 16 - A Malden man was found in the woods off of Lexington Street last night, after witnesses reported to police that someone could be heard calling for help.

At 9:28 p.m.,  Officers Mark O'Hearn and Michael Pacheco responded to the area of the  for a report of someone "moaning, yelling and/or calling for help."

 

Aug. 16 – At 1:37 p.m., police responded to a report of two female shoplifters at Stop & Shop on Elm Street. According to police, store employees saw two women exit the store without paying for several items, including a large personalized birthday cake, birthday cards, party hats, ice cream, candles and a large amount of food. When an employee stopped the women, they left their carriage in the store and ran to their car. With information from witnesses and store video surveillance, Woburn Police was able to identify the women and will summons them to Woburn District Court for shoplifting over $100.
