Stoneham Hockey Mom Allegedly Throws Punch Following Youth Game

On Saturday, Dec. 28, police were dispatched to O'Brien Ice Rink for a report of a past assault and battery that took place after a hockey game involving parents from the two teams.

Upon arrival, police spoke with two women and noted that the right side of one of their faces appeared to be red with some swelling by her lower jaw. Both women said their children were at the rink for a squirt level hockey game with a team of the same age from Stoneham.

At the end of the game there was an incident on the ice between the children, but the game had ended. According to the reporting parties, as the children were getting off the ice towards their locker rooms a woman from the stands came running down the walkway in front of the stands towards their locker room.

According to the reporting parties, the woman was very upset and yelling "I want the name of No. 13!" and started to push the other players from the team out of her way so she could enter the team's locker room.

The women reported that they tried to protect the children and block her from getting into the locker room, and at that time she allegedly punched the reporting party in the face, according to the police report.

Police were told that the struggle continued as they got her out of the locker room, and at that point it seemed as though other parents from Stoneham became involved as well, with a lot of yelling between parents. The woman who allegedly threw the punch left the area at that point.

Officers asked the coach of the Stoneham team if he knew the woman involved. He said it was his wife and he believed she had been assaulted. After seeing the commotion, the Stoneham coach had gone over and told his wife to leave the rink.

Police asked the man to call his wife. He made a phone call, and while he began to speak with another party, an unidentified Stoneham man took the cell phone and walked away with the phone to the other side of the rink.

He returned after a short time and said he was the woman's attorney and he was unsure if she wanted to speak with police. The officer told the man he was just trying to get both sides of the story.

After several minutes, the man handed the coach's phone back to him and police spoke to the woman involved. She said she was attacked by some parents of the other team. When police asked why she was down at the other team's locker room, she only stated that she was the one who was assaulted.

Police decided that the best option was to get a no trespass order for the woman for O'Brien Rink. They also spoke to the reporting parties about having her and the team coaches speak to the Valley League hockey board about the incident, and the conduct of the woman.
