Violent Crime Up, Property Crime and Larceny Down in Woburn

The FBI's Uniform Crime Report is released each fall.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Report shows that violent crimes increased in Woburn, while other crimes showed a decrease in the city in 2012.

The FBI's annual report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall after the reporting year.

There were 96 reported violent crimes in Woburn in 2012, which is an increase from 82 in 2011 and 86 in 2010. Violent crime includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

There were four forcible rapes reported in Woburn in 2012, less than the nine reported in 2011 and 2010. No murders have occurred in the city since 2010.

Aggravated assaulted also increased with 73 reported in 2012 compared to 59 in 2011 and 34 in 2010.

Property crimes continue to be the most reported crimes in Woburn, though there was a significant decrease recently. There were 668 property crimes reported in 2012, which is down from 739 in 2011 and 754 in 2010.

After an spike in burglaries in 2011, those crimes decreased in 2012. There were 105 burglaries in 2012 compared to 140 in 2011. The 2012 numbers are the same as 2010 when 105 burglaries were reported in Woburn.

Robberies ticked up slightly in 2012 with 19 reported compared to 14 in 2011. Both years saw less robberies than 2010, when 22 occurred.

Larceny-thefts dropped to 544 reports in 2012, which was down from 573 in 2011 and also less than 602 reported in 2010.

There were 19 motor vehicle thefts reported in 2012, which is down from 26 in 2011 and significantly decreased from 47 in 2010.
