Woburn Cop Arrested on Medford Assault Charge

Officer Charles Stock has been placed on administrative leave, said Woburn Police Monday.

An off-duty Woburn Police officer allegedly punched a woman in the face during an argument in Medford Square early Friday morning.

Charles Stock, 44, of Woburn, was charged with assault and battery July 29. Stock, an officer with the Woburn Police Department has been placed on administrative leave while the charge pends, according to a statement from Woburn Police.

After having a few drinks at John Brewer's Tavern in Malden on Thursday evening, Stock and the woman began to argue while driving through Medford Square, according to a statement written by the victim.

Stock allegedly stopped the car near Alamo Roast Beef about 12 a.m. Friday, grabbed the woman by the hair and punched her in the face four times, the statement said. The alleged assault left a welt on the woman's forehead, according to a police report.

After the alleged assault, the victim got out of the car and began walking toward Medford Police Headquarters as Stock drove away, the victim's statement said.

Police received a report of domestic violence and picked her up walking on a sidewalk just south of Medford Square, according to the police report, written by Medford Police Sgt. James Perillo.

"She told the (responding) units that 'he (expletive) did this to me,'" the report said.

She was treated by paramedics at Medford Police Headquarters but was not taken to the hospital, the report said.

Police searched the area of the victim's home but couldn't find Stock. Medford Police, knowing Stock was an officer in Woburn, called Woburn Police and told them they were looking for him, the report said.

Stock turned himself in to Woburn Police where he was booked and transported to Medford by Woburn Officer Thomas Negri, according to a Woburn Police report. Negri confiscated Stock's police-issued gun and his radio transmitter, the report said.

Stock was arraigned in Somerville District Court Friday morning, where his bail was set at $200. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 12.

Stock told the court he would appoint his own attorney.

A brief statement from Woburn Police said Stock has been placed on administrative leave, the statement said.
