Woburn Man in Court Friday for Carjacking, Kidnapping Charges

The Woburn man faces charges of kidnapping, assault and battery and car jacking.

Boston Police arrested a Woburn man on Thursday after they allege he attempted to carjack a woman on Waltham Street in Boston before crashing into a van and fleeing.

MyFoxBoston.com reported that Joel Cartagena, 36, of Woburn, is accused of holding the 29-year-old victim down with one hand while operating her vehicle with the other. After the crash, the woman reportedly escaped into a nearby restaurant.

An officer in the area saw Cartagena running, according to MyFoxBoston, and tracked him down.

The Suffolk County District Attorney said on Friday that Cartagena is scheduled to appear in court at some point during the day, though it's unclear exactly what time it will be.
