Salem police are searching the area around Salem State University for a Woburn man believed to have been involved in a stabbing incident aboard one of the university's shuttle busses Wednesday morning, according to scanner reports.

A witness who was handing out promotional items near the bus stop told police he saw a man jump off of one of the university's shuttle busses and flee the area on foot shortly after 11 a.m.

Two people were reportedly injured in the incident. As of about 1 p.m. Salem State officials tweeted that students have been ordered to shelter in place as the suspect may have returned to the campus.

One of the alleged victims was reportedly taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to scanner reports.

Local police were reportedly chasing a brown Toyota Camry down Jefferson Avenue shortly after the incident. Scanner reports indicated that they were looking for a Woburn resident. The suspect was described as a white male with long hair.

A Salem State University police captain on scene said the college will issue a prepared statement sometime this afternoon.
