Woburn Resident Arrested in New York for Salem State Stabbing

Salem State University confirmed late Wednesday night that Woburn resident Timothy Wells was arrested late Wednesday night New York, ending a daylong search for the man suspected of stabbing two people on a campus bus.

"Timothy Wells, suspect in assault on campus earlier today, has been taken into custody," tweeted Salem State late Wednesday night. "He was arrested this evening in upstate New York."

Multiple media outlets reported the news just before 11 p.m. that Wells was arrested without incident on the Taconic Parkway. Salem Police also confirmed the arrest when contacted by Patch on Wednesday night.

According to Fox 25 reporter Heather Hegedus, Wells will be brought before a judge in New York before he is returned to Massachusetts to face two counts of assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, a knife.

Police said at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Wells stabbed a woman on a Salem State shuttle bus. At that point, the bus driver attempted to intervene and was allegedly stabbed as well.

The Woburn resident them reportedly fled the scene in a brown Toyota Camry, and the campus was placed in shelter in place mode.
