Woburn Woman on Drug High Attacks Cops

Police report woman kicked out cruiser windows and was foaming at the mouth, biting at officers and herself.

 

A Woburn woman reportedly attacked police officers overnight in what appeared to be a drug-induced episode, said police.

At 11:28 p.m., Beatrice Ortiz, 27, of 6 Kimball Court Apt. #114, was arrested and charged with assault and battery (domestic), assault and battery on a police officer (three counts), malicious damage to a motor vehicle (police cruiser) and resisting arrest.

According to , officers were dispatched to for a report of a fight between two women. Witnesses told police that the argument began over a woman asking Ortiz to take her sneakers off while lying on the couch.

When police arrived, Ortiz was sitting on the ground, crying. Police said she got up suddenly, and began screaming at the other woman.

Two officers handcuffed Ortiz, who began yelling and spitting, kicking and pinching at the patrolmen. Police reported Ortiz spit on two officers. As police placed Ortiz in the cruiser, she continued to kick at officers, trying to strike both men in the groin.

An officer on scene reported that Ortiz “showed amazing strength” during her struggle with police. The woman was barefoot, but she kicked out both windows of the cruiser and damaged the doors. Police said Ortiz began rolling in the broken glass and throwing glass out the window. An officer arrived with leg restraints, and Ortiz was secured in the cruiser.

Police reported she continued to spit, kick and threaten the officers.

As Ortiz was secured in the cruiser, officers reported she was “foaming at the mouth” and "was having a hard time breathing." Woburn Fire responded to the scene. When she came to, police reported Ortiz began to talk about "[people] coming to get her."

Ortiz was transported to Lahey Clinic, where she continued to battle with staff and officers. Police reported she bit her IV lines, as well as her blood pressure cuff. Ortiz also reportedly began biting her fingers and ripping at her skin. Ortiz told police she took cocaine earlier in the night.

According to police, Ortiz was still in the hospital Wednesday.
