Featured Incident

On Saturday, Nov. 2, a woman called police to report a stolen purse from a gas station on Washington Street.

The Billerica resident said that while she was pumping gas, she placed her purse on top of the pump. The woman said she inadvertently left it there when she pulled away at about 9:50 p.m.

The woman went back in the morning to see if anyone had turned it in to the clerk, but no one had. There was no currency in the purse, but her license, social security card and and Visa card were inside.

Police spoke to the gas station manager and he said he would check the security tape. A short time later, the manager showed video of a white woman taking the purse.

Just after the victim pulled away from the pump, the suspect pulled in with a newer looking Volkswagen. The suspect was observed pulling her vehicle up to the pump at 9:52 p.m., just two minutes after the woman drove away.

Police said that it appeared the woman had every intention of stealing the purse. She can be seen on the tape looking around at her surroundings, then placing her hood over her head to conceal her identity. It was a warm night, so the hood was suspicious.

After the suspect finished pumping gas, she looked around, grabbed the purse, and hid it along her right leg as she entered the vehicle. The suspect left the lot towards Reading.
