Committee No Closer to Vote to Allow Scrap Metal at Woburn Truck and Auto

A public hearing continues next week.

The City Council's Special Permits Committee discussed again this week the proposal to allow a scrap metal operation at Woburn Truck and Auto, but came no closer to a vote, reported the Daily Times Chronicle.

Residents were denied a chance to discuss their opposition to the business by Ward 6 Alderman Michael Raymond, declining to arrange a meeting with the property owner.

The public hearing will continue on Tuesday, May 6.

Woburn Truck and Auto seeks to obtain a special permit to conduct heavy manufacturing at the business on Breed Ave., said the Chronicle.

Alderman Raymond was not denying RESIDENTS an opportunity to voice their opposition to the scrap metal facility. In fact, he has encouraged residents to speak their minds about it in every open city meeting. He was declining to negotiate with the OWNER(s) of the facilities. These people have not demonstrated a willingness to operate in good faith, so negotiating would likely have limited to no value.

We already had a meeting planned with Mike prior to that request. He has encouraged people to speak up but many don't want to because they know the family.

Drove down there today and saw the junk cars piled high at the "Scrap Metal Facility" ;)
