Libya Attack Victim's Family Asks For Privacy

A this week during the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

Glen Doherty, 42, was identified Thursday as one of four killed in the attack.

"We as a community are outraged and devastated to learn that Winchester native and former Navy SEAL Glen Doherty was one of the four people killed during terrorist attacks at the U.S. Embassy in Libya," said Mayor Scott Galvin.

Doherty's family held a brief press conference in front of his mother's home in Woburn Thursday.

Kate Quigley said her brother "lived his life to the fullest," according to a Boston.com report. Quigley also asked for privacy while the family grieved.

Quigley said publicly that her brother had previously been a Navy SEAL where he was trained as a sniper and medical corpsman and left the service four years ago to provide security for American officials overseas.

Chief Robert Ferullo and WPD Capt. Jim Martin, along with State Rep. Jim Dwyer, offered condolences to the family Thursday morning.

"Our sympathy goes out to Mr. Doherty’s family here in Woburn, and at his home in California," said Mayor Galvin. "We extend our solemn gratitude for his heroism that day—giving his life fighting to protect those in the U.S. Libyan Embassy under attack from what now appears to be a coordinated act of terrorism that killed three others, including U.S. Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens. As a city, we will continue to support Mr. Doherty’s family here in any way we can. Please respect and honor this hero’s memory by giving his family some privacy at this moment.”
