Mayoral Debate Scheduled for Monday Night

The event begins at 7 p.m., though residents are encouraged to arrive by 6:30 p.m. to submit questions.

With the preliminary election just over one week away, candidates for a variety of positions will take part in a debate on Monday night.

The event, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. inside Woburn High School, will provide residents a chance to learn more about all three mayoral candidates for this fall’s election. In addition, candidates for alderman will also be in attendance.

Incumbent Mayor Scott Galvin will debate with challengers John Flaherty and Patrick Natale on Monday. According to Reading Public Media Center, audience members are encouraged to arrive by 6:30 p.m. to submit questions for a panel to review and potentially ask the candidates.

In addition to the mayoral race, incumbent candidates for Alderman-at-Large Paul Denaro and Richard Haggerty will debate challenger Michael Concannon. Also debating will be candidates for Ward 5 Alderman Darlene Mercer-Bruen, and incumbent, and challengers Paul Muise Jr. and James Fletcher Jr.

Residents will have the chance to weigh in on the alderman race at the ballot box on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with no primary in advance of the race.

Moderating Monday’s debate will be Sheila Capone-Wulsin, the former Executive Director of the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus.

According to WPMC, the event will be broadcast live for residents unable to attend in person. The debate will air on Comcast channels 9, 22, and 99. It will also be on Verizon channels 43, 45, and 47, and RCN channels 3, 13, and 15.
