State Drops Health Insurance Website Contractor

Massachusetts is cutting ties with CGI, the contractor that created the online health insurance marketplace after months of complaints from users.

“We have made the decision we’re going to be parting ways with CGI,” Sarah Iselin, who was hired recently by Governor Deval Patrick to oversee repairs to the website, told The Boston Globe. 

The Boston Globe reported that the commonwealth may hire another company to fix the Health Connector website. In January, the state hired Bedford-based MITRE Corp. to find fixes to the Massachusetts Health Connector website. 

That became controversial when it was reported only one person was reviewing the site.

Massachusetts has needed to use paper applications to get uninsured residents onto the state marketplace in order to meet the federal Affordable Care Act requirements, reported the Boston Globe.

State leaders hope the site will be working without problems by next fall for the 2015 enrollment period.
