UPDATE: Photos of New Veterans Memorial

Project should be complete by Veterans Day.

Anyone driving through downtown Woburn has seen the barricades. The city's veterans memorial is undergoing an extreme facelift thanks to John Flaherty's donation earlier this year.

John Flaherty and his wife, Kathy, visited Barre, VT last week where many of the tablets for the new memorial are being built.

According to the city's Veterans Services office, each of the 26 tablets will have the local wartime veterans' names on it, as well as an etched picture depicting the war period.

The published photos are not the complete project, said Jennifer Murray from the Veterans Services office.

The entire project is expected to be complete on the Common in time for a Veterans Day dedication on Nov. 11.

It is absolutely wonderful that this memorial is being rebuilt. A few years ago, I visited the memorial with my son and his Cub Scout den (pack 519). I was dismayed to see the wooden memorial in such a bad state of disrepair. This new memorial will pay fitting tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for all of us. Thank you to the Flaherty family for enabling this to happen!

Thank you for for rebuilding this memorial and for honoring all veterans in all of the wars. And Rock of Ages Granite in Barre is wonderful also! :P

This is beautiful, and I am glad to see that it has a similar shape/look as the old one, but more permanent in stone.

Thanks so much to the hard-working people putting together this wonderful war memorial. I only wish I could be there on Veteran's Day as my late husband and my brother will be among the veterans honored. Chris in Florida

This memorial is great, however the fact that at least 3 service member's names are wrong on it is upsetting. When I tried calling the Mayor's office, his assistant told me it sounded like a personal problem that the misspellings should upset someone.

I feel sorry for any misspelling or mistakes but with a project that big you will have some. I'm told all will be corrected. Thank you all for the hard work in making this one of kind Honor Roll that our veterans deserved.

I can't thank everyone enough who were involved in making the Veterans Memorial happen! As a mother, daughter, niece, sister-in-law and friend of Veterans on those walls, I am forever grateful to you and our Veterans. Theresa Borelli - proud to be a citizen of Woburn!
