Which Community Had the Highest Voter Turnout?

The highest vote total was 48% in one town.

Melrose came out strong for its hometown candidate, Katherine Clark, at Tuesday’s special Congressional election, but the city actually didn’t have the highest turnout.

That honor goes to Winchester, which had a whopping 48% voter turnout on Tuesday, according to data compiled by The Boston Globe.

Melrose came in second with 20% turnout and Arlington finished in third with 19%.

On the other end of the spectrum, there were four communities with single digit turnout. Revere and Waltham finished tied for lowest turnout with 8% and Ashland and Southborough came in second to last with 9% each.

Natick – 10%

Sherborn – 15%

Watertown – 10%

Wayland – 13%

Weston – 11%

Woburn – 11%

 

Overall, 13% of registered voters took part in the election on Tuesday.

Clark easily won the race with 66% of the vote. Her state Senate seat will be open as she heads to the U.S. Congress, which means Melrose, Malden, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield and Winchester will have yet another special election to fill that seat.
