Woburn Joins Middlesex DA for a Safe Summer

Woburn has joined the Middlesex District Attorney's office and other local communities in an effort to make this summer a safe and fun summer for residents.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan held an event last Friday to discuss the area's efforts to keep residents safe.

Joining DA Ryan were more than 50 police chiefs, college police chiefs, mayors and town managers from across Middlesex County at the District Attorney’s Office in Woburn.

“This was an important effort today to reinforce our partnerships with the communities of Middlesex County,” District Attorney Ryan said in a release.  “Summer is a great time of year and we must join forces to keep our children and all our residents safe.  In addition to preventing crime, we want to help our children and families continue to access those services they use during the school year all summer long.”

The communities participating in Friday's program were: Ashland, Belmont, Burlington, Cambridge, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Dracut, Everett, Framingham, Groton,Holliston, Hudson, Lincoln, Lowell, Malden, Medford, Newton, North Reading, Somerville, Sudbury, Tewksbury, Townsend, Tyngsboro, Wakefield, Wayland, Weston, Wilmington, and Woburn.

Among the priorities for protecting the county’s residents this summer, District Attorney Ryan highlighted the office’s multi-faceted summer safety program that aims to prevent accidental child deaths by promoting water safety, encouraging safe sleep for infants, preventing window falls and reminding parents to never leave a child in a car, the release states.

Additionally, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office will continue to work with local law enforcement partners on Impact Players meetings.  This is a collaboration that seeks to identify individuals in a community who may be involved in criminal activity and other trends impacting a community and develop strategies to prevent crime and improve public safety.

Since some services for youth offered during the school year are not available in the summer, the District Attorney’s Office will collaborate with local law enforcement and schools to monitor those students and help them access interim services.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office has a proud tradition of protecting and serving the people of Middlesex County through tough, fair prosecutions and proactive, progressive prevention and intervention efforts.  The mission of the Office of the Middlesex District Attorney is to protect and serve the public, fight for victims, and protecting the most vulnerable.
