Boys Hockey Impresses During Tie With Reading [VIDEO]

Woburn jumped out to a 3-0 first period edge before settling for a 3-3 tie against the Rockets, who are ranked in the top five in Massachusetts.

In January, Reading showed why it's ranked among the top teams in all of Massachusetts boys hockey when it blasted Woburn, 7-1. But on Wednesday night, the Tanners showed that they're not likely to go quietly come tournament time this month.

Woburn pounced to a 3-0 lead in the first period on Wednesday night at Burbank Arena. Reading struck back with three goals of their own, but the Tanners held off a late Rockets charge to avenge their embarrassing loss with a 3-3 tie.

Thanks to Wednesday's result, the Tanners are now 9-6-3 on the year with a 8-5-3 mark in Middlesex League play. The Rockets, meanwhile, are likely to get serious Super 8 consideration thanks to a record that currently sits at 14-1-5.

"We were hoping we could catch them sleeping a little knowing we were coming off a 7-1 loss in the first game," said Woburn head coach Jim Duran. "We came out to a hot start there, and that's what we needed to hold on. We talked about weathering the storm, but we went at them and capitalized on our chances."
