Woburn won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kick. Joao Germano returned the kick out to the 49 yard line. One run for no gain and a botched center/QB exchange led to Burlington taking over right away on the Woburn 48. Defensive coordinator Jack Hayes’ 11 would lead the way today. The Patriots first possession would last only 7 plays. The Germano brothers each had 2 tackles on this stand. A huge tackle by Pedro Germano on 3rd and 18 put the Patriots back to 4th and 25.

Woburn followed with a quick four-and-out possession. As Patriot defenders knifed through the Trojan line to tally four straight stops for a loss. Burlington took over on the Woburn 36 and they took to the ground. They ran to the right for ten yards, then up the middle for 9 more. The next run was a short gain of 2, stopped by Joao Germano.

Burlington snapped from the 15 yard line, 1st and 10. Defensive End Andrew Taft took the corner and forced the Patriot QB to change direction. The QB was greeted by nose guard Ty Farren for a huge loss of 6 yards. On second and 16 Burlington ran up the middle for 12 yards. Third and 4 saw Thyago Eller and Farren combine to make a stop for no gain. Burlington tried to sweep right on 4th and 4 and the run was strung out by Nick Puleo and Pedro Germano.

Woburn took over on their own 8 yard line. Consecutive Patriot penalties gave the offense a little breathing room. After gaining a total of 2 yards on the next for downs Woburn would give up possession on their own 8. Three carries to the right side resulted in the game’s first score. Up 6-0, the Pats ran left and converted the extra point. Both teams exchanged possessions with little ball movement. This led to halftime with Burlington leading 7-0.

Eller opened the second half with a booming kick. Burlington would start on their own 35 and go four and out again. QB Fishlin was under center on Burlington’s 30, 1st and 10. Coach Morgan called for a reverse. Fishlin handed to Joao Germano who then handed to a charging Eller. A huge hole opened between Jake Daniell and Killian Hayes and Eller was gone. He galloped for 30 yds to the end zone. Fishlin barreled over a defender to convert the extra point. The game was tied 7-7.

That would be all of the scoring for either side this day. Both defenses would stifle the opponents offense the rest of the way. All of Woburns boys were cycled in and out, keeping fresh.

Jack Hayes defense had many players step it up a level today. Mason Parziale and Angel Apaza each made tackles for losses. Xavier Etiene, Mikey Mahoney, Jake Daniell, Mike Dionne, Matt McCarthy, Killian Hayes, Devon McLaughlin, Gavin Nigro, Matt O’Connor and Jack Seibel all played a big role today.

The Loyal Order of Moose E1 Trojans will be hosting Reading next Sunday, October 14 at 8:00 a.m.
