PLAYOFF TIME: Woburn Football Opens Friday in Wakefield

Kickoff comes at 7 p.m. at Wakefield High School.

Woburn ended the regular season on a mini-losing streak. But the Tanners football team could erase that quickly with a big win on Friday night. Here are five things to get you ready for the postseason opener.

1. Who, What, When, and Where: Thanks to a 5-2 record this season, the Tanners were given a qualifying rating of 12.71, good for the No. 5 seed in Northwest Division 3. As a result, the locals will travel to Wakefield on Friday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.

2. Scouting the Warriors: Wakefield managed a 16 qualifying rating with a record of 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Middlesex League Freedom Division. The Warriors performed well defensively this year, allowing only 15 points per game. Defensively, Wakefield scored 24.3 points per tilt.

3. What's Next: The winner of Friday night's game earns a semifinal match up against either Concord-Carlisle, the bracket's top seed, or No. 6 Winchester, another Middlesex League team.

4. Road to the Playoffs: Woburn started its season with five consecutive wins against Billerica, Burlington, Winchester, Lexington and Belmont. The Tanners then ran into a pair of difficult foes and lost to playoff bound Arlington and Reading to end the year at 5-2. On the year, Woburn scored an average of 22.1 points per game and let in 22.9 points per contest.
