Woburn’s defense was caught off guard by the first play of the game which resulted in a 47 yard gain; however, they recovered quickly and prevented the Wildcats from passing the first down marker for a second time. The Trojan offense took over on their own 21-yard line and went right to work, moving the ball to the other end of the field to the 8-yard line. With the help of great blocking up front by David Langlois, James Taft, Matt Qualey, Jonathan Avery, and Peter Cole, Ryan Ludwig took the ball into the endzone for six points. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful.

After a kick return put them just past midfield, the Wildcats then moved the ball to Woburn’s 29-yard line. On fourth down, Wilmington’s pass was intercepted by Peter Cole and ended their chances of scoring on the drive.

The weather was to blame for a multitude of turnovers throughout the entire game. Woburn became the first victim with a fumble on the first play of its second drive. Thanks to heads up defensive play by Dylan Thompson, the Trojans were back on offense the very next play with his fumble recovery. Unfortunately, the offensive momentum was halted after Woburn lost a second fumble, which resulted in a Wilmington touchdown.

To start the third quarter, Woburn’s offense moved the ball all the way to the 3-yard line but was stopped short of the goal line. Again, the defensive squad, including Jonathan Avery, Jared Zolubos, Dylan Thompson, Emanuel Polanco, Ryan Qualey, Rennie Cyprian, James Taft, Matt Qualey, Ryan Ludwig, John Lafferty, David Langlois, Jayson Blouin, Peter Cole, Kris Chiary, and Dylan Zolubos, stopped Wilmington, forcing them to punt from the endzone.

The Trojans got the ball on the 14-yard line and quickly took advantage of the great field position. Three plays later, Kris Chiary pushed his way across the goal line. Quarterback Ryan Qualey then handed the ball to Ryan Ludwig, who ran the ball in for the extra point, taking the score to 13-6.

The rain continued to create problems for both teams in the fourth quarter. Two lost fumbles per team prevented any chance of adding points to the scoreboard.

Others earning recognition for their efforts in the game include Jaden Russell, Colin Harkins, Cash Kingstad, Ryan Dever, David Nardone, Jack Aylward, and Ahriq Mason.

The D1 team will play Burlington at Woburn Memorial High School next Sunday morning.
