Tanners Flatten Top Seed Concord-Carlisle to Reach Title Game

Thanks to Friday's win, the Woburn High School football team will play next week for the Northwest Division 3 championship.

It got a little closer than the Tanners may have liked at the end, but the result was all that mattered for the Woburn High School football team.

The Tanners traveled to top seed Concord-Carlisle High School on Friday night and pounced to a 17-0 lead. The Patriots pulled within three points in the final minutes and recovered an onside kick with a chance to tie or win in the closing seconds. But Woburn fought of the Concord-Carlisle rally and went on to a 17-14 win.

As a result, the Tanners will travel to Melrose next Friday night to play for the Division 3 Northwest championship game. The winner will advance to the state playoff bracket with state title hopes still in tact.

Check back with Woburn Patch on Monday for complete coverage of Friday night's game.
