Tough Road Loss For D1 Pop Warner Team

Team returns to Woburn this weekend.

Sunday’s game resulted in a disappointing loss for the Woburn Loyal Order of Moose D1 team, who fell short to the Waltham Devil Dogs, 6-12. The game was played at Waltham High School.

Woburn’s offensive struggles started with a lost fumble on their first drive. Waltham would score twice in the first quarter, but the Trojans never gave up, working hard until the end of the game.

Standout defensive play by Peter Cole, Dylan Thompson, Emanuel Polanco, Jonathan Avery, Kris Chiary, Rennie Cyprian, Ryan Ludwig, John Lafferty, Jared Zolubos, Jayson Blouin, Ryan Qualey, Matt Qualey, Dylan Zolubos, James Taft, Jaden Russell, Evan Vienneau, and David Langlois, kept Waltham scoreless for three quarters.

With the motivational cheers by the Gulde Insurance Agency cheerleading squad, the Woburn Trojans kept fighting for yardage. Early in the fourth quarter, Woburn was faced with 4th and 6, when quarterback Ryan Qualey connected with John Lafferty for a 23-yard gain, thus, keeping the drive alive. The drive continued with an impressive run by Jared Zolubos, who moved the ball to the 15-yard line. Two plays later, Ryan Ludwig took the ball into the endzone for Woburn’s only score of the game.

Woburn’s defense forced a fumble and gave the offense another chance with only a few minutes remaining in the game. Despite the offensive push until the end, the Trojans could not find a way to put more points on the scoreboard.

Others earning recognition for their efforts in the game include David Nardone, William Mahoney, Cash Kingstad, Jack Aylward, Colin Harkins, Ryan Dever, Cameron Chute, and Ahriq Mason.

The D1 team will play their first home game against Lexington this Sunday.
