Winning is Contagious for MacCurtain's Lady Tanners

The Woburn girls hockey team earned another regular season title and is ranked No. 1 in the state thanks to its veteran coach.

The following questions were answered by Woburn girls hockey head coach Bob MacCurtain, who led the Tanners to a 16-0-3 record so far this year. That mark included a 13-0-2 record in Middlesex League play, good for a league title. The Lady Tanners are ranked by multiple media outlets as the No. 1 team in the state with the postseason just around the corner.

What's been the key to your team's success this year?

Itโ€™s all about the players for sure. Every year we have two goals. Win a league championship and win a state championship. I think every group that comes in sees the history on the wall of our locker room and wants to keep that tradition going.

Why has the girls hockey program historically been so successful?

We started strong 13 years ago with some great players, and it started a great culture. Every group that comes in wants to outdo the one before them.

What's your favorite part about coaching?

I love to be around the kids. Every year you get different personalities, but itโ€™s a lot of fun to see them coming together this time of year getting ready for the tournament.
