Woburn set the tone of the game early with special teams’ help from John Lafferty, who recovered his first of two kickoff fumbles. The first offensive play of the game went to running back John Zakrewski, who took the ball 13 yards. Quarterback Ryan Qualey then handed off to Ryan Ludwig, who ran the ball 23 yards into the endzone. Kris Chiary added two more points with a kick through the uprights, making the score 8-0.

Woburn’s defense came out strong and stopped Watertown at the 42-yard line, where the offense took over on downs. The defense would return to the field a few plays later, but they continued their great play, giving the offense great field position at midfield. With the help of strong blocking up front by David Langlois, James Taft, Matt Qualey, Jonathan Avery, and Peter Cole, Ludwig once again took the ball across the goal line for six points. Chiary’s kick after the score was good for two more points.

Lafferty’s second fumble recovery put the Woburn offense at Watertown’s 45-yard line. After impressive runs by Kris Chiary and Dylan Zolubos, Woburn had the ball at the 5-yard line with two minutes to play in the half. Great blocking by William Mahoney, David Nardone, Jack Aylward, Cameron Chute, Ryan Dever, Ahriq Mason, and Colin Harkins, allowed Jayson Blouin to receive the handoff from quarterback Cash Kingstad and score. The kick by Chiary went through the middle of the uprights, taking the score to 24-0 at halftime.

The awesome special teams’ play by Woburn continued into the third quarter with a 37 yard kickoff return by Jared Zolubos, placing the ball at the 21-yard line. One play later, Dylan Thompson crossed the goal line and added six more points for Woburn.

The remainder of the game was all defense, and the exciting play by Woburn’s Ryan Qualey, David Langlois, Peter Cole, Jaden Russell, Evan Vienneau, Emanuel Polanco, Rennie Cyprian, John Zakrewski, James Taft, Dylan Thompson, Jared Zolubos, and Jonathan Avery, gave the Gulde Insurance Agency cheerleading squad plenty of reasons to cheer loudly.

Watertown managed to score on the last play of the game, making the final score 30-6. The D1 team will play next Sunday in Waltham.
