Woburn Football Remains Unbeaten After Friday Win

The Tanners head into league play this week after two straight wins to start the year.

So far, so good for the Woburn High School football team.

The Tanners are undefeated after their opening pair of games thanks to an impressive 27-7 victory over host Burlington High School on Friday night.

Marvin Jean caught a pass from Robert Voci to open the scoring for the Tanners, though the Red Devils soon scored to even things at 7-7. But Woburn bounced right back as Chris Jewett went 80 yards on the next play for a touchdown and the Tanners never looked back.

Jean added a 25-yard touchdown run later in the game and Voci scrambled for another score.

Woburn next hosts Winchester on Friday night at 7 p.m. before taking on Lexington the following week in its final scheduled home game. The team finishes with four straight road tilts.

“Now we’re entering league play, so we have to continue to get better,” said head coach Rocky Nelson. “Our kids really worked hard and certainly improved an awful lot from week one. We eliminated a lot of the penalties. It was a good, physical football game and we beat a very good team.”
