Woburn got the ball first and QB Alex Fishlin led the offense downfield. Joao Germano and Nick Puleo each carried twice, putting Woburn deep inside Wilmington territory. Puleo s second carry was a huge 20 yard gainer. A steady dose of Thyago Eller up the middle put Woburn inside the 10 yd line, 1st and goal to go.

Wilmington's defense stood tall, stuffing the Trojan charge four downs in a row to take over possession on their own 9 yard line.

Defensive coordinator Jack Hayes had his crew fired up. Jack MacDonald and Pedro Germano joined to haul down a Wildcat runner for a two yard loss on first down. After a rush for no gain Wilmington ran twice in a row into the arms of lineman Jake Daniell. Daniell and fellow lineman Killian Hayes, Tyler Farren, Matt O'connor and Jack MacDonald backboned a strong defensive stand.

Woburn had great field position, starting on the Wildcat 17. The Trojans had a wet ball squirt away and Wilmington recovered.

More solid D from Jack Seibel, William Maye, Mason Parziale, Mike Mahoney, Gavin Nigro, Mitch Riccardi, Micheal Dionne, Angel Apaza, Matthew McCarthy, Devon McLaughlin, Sammy Nunes, Xavier Etiene and Andrew Taft shut down Wilmington.

The half ended with an old-fashioned Goal Line Stand. Nick Puleo blew through the line and exploded on a Wilmington runner for a 4 yard loss.

The Roche Bros. Cheerleaders treated the wet, damp crowd to a great halftime show. Lifting everybody's spirits, as usual.

Woburn opened the second half by pinning Wilmington in on their own 23. Much to the pleasure of Special Teams coaches Joh n Zolubos and Dave Langlois. Two hard hits by Eller and back-to-back sacks by Ty Farren ended another Wildcat push.

The Trojans threatened late. Fishlin pitched to Eller who barreled left for 30 yds. Puleo took the next handoff and scampered 50 yds, putting Coach Morgan s offense in the red zone again. Another untimely wet ball fumbled ended the drive on the Wilmington 9 yard line.

Line coaches Peter Cole and Jim Chute watched as their boys duked it out on the soggy turf with the tough Wildcat lines. Both teams exchanged drives midfield. With time winding down, Wilmington tried unsuccessfully to run up the middle again and again. The Trojans bottled them up each time leading to the final whistle.

The E1 Trojans play host to Burlington next Sunday.
