Summary of Our Recent Community Meeting

Our meeting went well last night.  We would like to thank Alderman Haggerty for coming and Alderman Concannon for his supporting Emails.  There are a number of issues we are following to help address our flooding problems.  Keeping a close watch on the sub-developments at 30 and 90 Wyman St. are always a top concern.  However, there are three issues which we feel are very pressing and in need of the most immediate attention.

SO WE ARE ASKING ALL OUR CITY OFFICIALS TO CONSIDER REVIEWING THESE ISSUES AND PURSUING THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

THE WINN ST CULVERT.  The one that can have the most immediate impact is the cleaning & clearing of the culvert that crosses Winn St and drains the stream that runs behind the two developments.  All of the engineering plans and other remedies ultimately depend on water draining through that culvert.  We have been promised many times that it would be cleaned but it remains clogged and is a direct cause of current flooding.

HART ST DRAINAGE PROJECT.  An article in the Boston Globe quoting our city official states that “construction is scheduled for 2014”.  This project is critical to helping ease flooding on Hart St and diverting water from the stream that runs behind both new developments.  We would like to be made aware of the exact plan for that project including a time line with milestones and dates for each phase of the project.

OPEN SPACE ZONING for CITY OWNED SPENCE PARCEL.  As there has been talk of building a new school there and to prevent any unwanted development to this parcel, which has become an integral part of the city and center for community, it should be rezoned.

One other matter was brought up.  There will be a Conservation Commission meeting tomorrow, Thursday Jan 16 at 7:00 PM at city hall.  The first two agenda items concern the two sub-developments on Wyman St.  Please attend if possible to demonstrate our ongoing concern.
