Sunday Race Will Honor Woburn's Glen Doherty

There are a variety of events happening this weekend in Woburn, and here are a few of them to help you plan your time off.

Woburn and the surrounding area is full of things to do this weekend. Here is a look at some of those events.

Playoff Baseball: It's October, and for the first time in years that means the Red Sox are in the playoffs. The local nine hit the diamond at 3:07 p.m. on Friday and 5:37 p.m. on Saturday. There are plenty of places to watch the game locally, including Scoreboard Bar & Grill, which offers $1 franks during the game and $10 burger a beer deals if you wear your Red Sox gear.

Greek Food: The Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church at 70 Montvale Ave. hosts the 2013 Fall Greek Food Fair. The event runs on Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and includes music, food and more.

Guild Yard Sale: On Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. on the property of 22 School Street, the Woburn Guild of Artists holds a fundraising "mega yard sale" that will include artworks, frames, arts and craft supplies and gently used household goods.

Oktoberfest: The third annual Family Oktoberfest takes place on Saturday afternoon at 41 Wyman Street and is free to all residents. There will be traditional bavarian food and drink for sale, free face painting, bounce houses for the children, and entertainment. Additional parking and a free shuttle will be provided by the Crowne Plaza.

Glen Doherty Race: A Sunday road race will honor late Woburn native Glen Doherty beginning at 12 p.m. in Winchester. There are 5k and 10k courses and the registration fee is just $25. Following the race there will also be a party at Winchester Town Hall. Doherty was killed last year in Benghazi during an attack at the United States consulate.
