Final Thoughts

Here we are the day before the election and after spending the last hour reading all the posts from the weekend, I’m troubled. What started out as an informational blog has turned into the “Drunk vs Punk”editoral. I will start my last and final thoughts about the candidates by saying John Flaherty would be a great Mayor for our city and before Tonto jumps on this and spews his venom, I will tell you why in one sentence. John Flaherty loves Woburn and its citizens. Plan and simple. There are pieces of his generosity everywhere. Yes, his past causes pause for us, but all the things he has done since then shows the character of this man. He can run a City. It doesn’t take a person with a law degree to be a better person than one that has business background. Being a Mayor isn’t casting a wand over the whole city and make them do what you want. You need to be a communicator and a team player. Case in point – the Mayors dinner for Seniors yesterday. The Mayor didn’t invite the City Council to participate in the dinner. Why? Past administrations always had the Council helping that day. I remember taking my mother and my Alderman was there. It’s community. Not one person makes a community. One example of many that Mayor Galvin just does whatever he wants. Now, let’s recap why we should be concerned about the person in office right now. I was a very vocal and proud supporter of Scott Galvin in his first election 4 years ago. I wanted him to win. I didn’t know much about Tom McLaughlin other than he hid water meter paperwork and everyone said he was deceitful. Okay, I bought it. We need honest people watching our backs, right? Scott’s campaign was very harsh but that was a good thing because he wanted to win. It was a negative campaign. It was almost embarrassing to Tom McLaughlin. After investigating the water meter issue, I was wrong. McLaughlin wasn’t to blame In fact, Alderman Galvin knew about this MWRA problem and did nothing about it. Over the years, I heard a few incidents that involved Scott and I just thought that’s how a Mayor is supposed to act. It wasn’t until I was watching a City Council meeting on TV when he burst into City Hall chambers and asked the Alderman to step outside is when I started to worry. I heard about the threats and now I was really worried. I spent the past few months inquiring and digging and I’m sorry to say, folks, we are in trouble. Mayor Scott Galvin is playing us for a bunch of idiots. The Officer DeNapoli situation put us in the news and not only does he not sign it the first time, he reduces the package the second time (as punishment to the family) and doesn’t sign it. We are put in the news again with our low ranking schools , again for water meters and now for his accident. We are so attractive for new home buyers. I’m being sarcastic., of course . Let’s go over once again Mayor Galvin’s inaccuracies (or lies- whatever helps his supporters sleep at night). He said he wasn’t drinking. He said Carmen Ortiz was at his table, he thought he didn’t have to do a drug and alcohol test because he was an elected official?? Do we honestly want someone with such low intelligence running our city? He recanted his Carmen Ortiz comment, confessed he was drinking, will address that policy of hiding cars behind DPW Dep. Superintendent’s houses. Really? He must think we are morons. It’s not the accident. It’s what he did after the accident that SCREAMES FOUL! His legal troubles are just beginning with this accident. Stay tuned. He hired 83 people. He said he didn’t hire family. Oh, okay – you hired your friends and supporters. You see where I’m going with this? He doesn’t acknowledge what he did only what he DIDN’T do. Lastly, my favorite topic – the Water Meters. He blatantly lied last week on two occasions. The Ordiance that I posted was from his office. If you read it closely, it says it was going to charge for a water meter and bill a commercial rate for a second meter. He went back and recanted the $400 charge and decided to bond it instead of charge us (in the long run, we will be paying – it’s not free). Galvin goes on to say if the City Council tries to put forth a second meter for irrigation and pools, he will veto it. Scott- this is YOUR ordinance that you wrote. You can’t veto it!! The City Council will change the language that you wrote and try to get the approvals. Remember, commercial property already have meters. This Ordiance is specifically geared towards residential property. The last thing that was disturbing is how Galvin says Flaherty ran a negative campaign. I have every mailing that Scott Galvin sent 4 years ago and it doesn’t come close to anything John Flaherty or his supporters have written. Flaherty’s information is truthful. Galvin buried McLaughlin by stating inaccuracies any playing on our fears. Tom McLaughlin lost because he was too much of a gentleman to run a negative campaign. I’m convinced of this now. I know this blog will not change any minds. I just wanted the citizens to be properly informed so they can make a clear decision. All I want is the truth. How about you?
