On January 15, the Friday before February vacation, WMHS students gathered in the auditorium at the end of the day to watch the annual Dating Game.  This fun-filled event is hosted by the high school’s Interact Club.  It is a game show related to Valentine’s Day and was funded by The Restaurant, Ixtapa, The 99’s, Sea Dog Brew Pub, Woburn Showcase Cinema, and Malvy’s Flowers.  During this game, students watch their peers get matched up with potential soul-mates. Freshman Casey Elliot explains her thoughts on her first dating game.

“My first dating game show experience was definitely interesting,” said Elliot. “It was fun!”

The game consists of 4 rounds: the speed round, the bachelor/bachelorette round, the best friends round, and the couples round.  In between the rounds, the students were entertained by the Step Team and musical performances such by Haley Flight, Kate Girardi, David Kisiel, and Molly Kupris.  They all did an excellent job.  Phil Gillette and Danysha Maitre hosted the game and kept the audience laughing throughout the show. Senior Melanie Ahern shares what she thought of the two MC’s.

“I thought they were really funny.  They may have been the best part of the dating game,” shared Ahern.

During the speed round, senior Katelyn McCann asked different questions to find her true love. Depending on their answers, the guys had to leave the stage.   The objective of the game was that McCann’s dream man would remain in the end.  Unfortunately, the final question, whether the boys liked to dance or not, caused all of the boys left on stage to walk off.  They obviously don’t have moves like jagger.

Next, the bachelor round started with senior Corey Fumicello and his three unknown but beautiful contestants: Katie O’Brien, Kiera Malone, and Hannah Brassard. After a few rounds of questions, he chose O’Brien as his gal.  For the bachelorette round, Christina O’Brien chose Kyle Johnson from her list of contestants.  Life-long best friends Allie Murphy and Morgan Murphy won the best friends round, while Nick Dalton and Michaela Quigley won the couples round. Dalton explains how he felt about winning the couples round.

“I feel that the dating game was a really funny test to see how well Michaela and I knew each other.  Thanks to some last minute questioning from her, we were able to win because she asked me the question no one else got, right before we were called up,” said Dalton. “It was really exciting to be up there knowing we were the closest couple.”

Overall this year’s dating game was a success.  Congratulations to all of the winners and lucky new “couples.”
