D1 Trojans Battle at Lexington
The Woburn Superior Police Officers, Local 528, D1 Trojans played their first road game of the season this past Sunday.  They traveled to Lexington to play the Lexington-Bedford-Hanscom (LBH) D1 Raiders. Host LBH were honoring local service men and women this week with Military Day.  Captains from both teams were escorted to midfield by Honorary Captains from Hanscom Air Force Base.  It turned out that Head Coach John Ferrone and his coaching staff would be the ones supplying the heavy artillery.
Ferrone’s foot soldiers started out with great field position.  Woburn QB Cash Kingstad was under center at the Woburn 44 yard line.  Operation Ground Assault was about to begin.  First down saw RB Kris Chiary take the ball hard to his right.  Two Raider defensive linemen blocked his path.  Chiary quickly reversed direction, made two sharp cuts, and got outside the pile.  Chiary was brought down on the LBH 39 yard line.  After a two yard carry by Dylan Thompson and another 10 yards from Chiary, Woburn was down to the LBH 26 yard line.  A first down holding penalty pushed the Trojans back to the 36, 1st and 20.  First down saw a Kingstad pass go off the mark.  Coach Ferrone called a timeout before 2nd and 20.  The boys got their new marching orders.  A wicked burst of speed around to the left from RB Riley Duran got the Trojans the 20 yards they needed.  Two Chiary carries left the Trojans with 3rd and 10 from the 17 yard line.  Duran ran a reverse to the left, turned the corner and scooted in for the 17 yard touchdown.  A blocked kick attempt left Woburn leading 6-0.
Duran kicked off to the LBH 30.  The return made it out to the 41.  Linemen Matt Qualey and Angel Apaza each made a solo tackles on the first two downs.  LBH converted on 3rd and 4 and made their way to the Woburn 49 yard line.  1st and 10 turned into 2nd and 15 after Duran tackled the LBH back for a 5 yard loss.  LB Dylan Thompson stopped runners on each of the next two downs.  LBH  faced 4th down and a long 9 yds to go.  The LBH QB rolled to his right and was looking to throw deep.  CB Colin Harkins smothered the QB before he could throw for what looked like another huge loss.  A flag was thrown on the play.  Woburn was called for a facemask penalty.  LBH was given 1st down on the Woburn 33.  Two consecutive illegal procedure calls moved LBH out to the 43, 1st and 20.  One incompletion and two stuffed runs led to 4th and 28 from the 45.  The Raider QB lofted a high pass down the middle of the field.  Safety Alex Fishlin stepped up and picked the pass off.  He returned the ball to midfield.
Woburn would start from the 50 yard line. The Trojan O-line began pushing around the Raider defensive front.  Linemen    Jake Daniel, Jack MacDonald, Qualey, Seamus McCaffrey, Evan Vienneau, Jaden Russell, Tyler Farren, Killian Hayes, Owen Cyret, Tucker Hogeland, Will Mahoney, Sean Lafferty, Apaza, Tim Freeley, Matt McCabe and Rennie Cyprian all combined to dominate the line of scrimmage.  First down saw a gain of 8 by RB Dylan Zolubos.  After no gain on 2nd and 2, Woburn faced 3rd and 2.  RB Gage Svelty took the pitch from QB Alex Fishlin and cruised in for a long 50 yard TD.  The conversion attempt was picked off, Woburn led 12-0.
Duran kicked off again, to the 33 yard line.  LBH returned it to the 46.  1st and 10 saw the LBH RB fumble the pitch from his QB>  Thompson pounced on the loose ball. Woburn took possession on the LBH 43 yd line.  Zolubos opened the drive with a ten yard gain.  Short gains from Robert Lafferty and Svelty left Woburn with 4th and 1.  Zolubos would dive forward for two yards, securing the first down on the LBH 22 yard line.  Woburn lost a yard on first down and faced 2nd and 11.  Duran took the toss from Kingstad, made two shifty moves and was in for a 23 yard touchdown.  Another conversion failed.  Woburn led 18-0 going into halftime.
LBH opened the second half with the ball on their own 37 yard line.  Woburns defense went to work.  Consecutive tackles by Duran, Thompson and Mahoney left  LBH facing 4th and 12.  The LBH QB botched the snap and Trojan lineman Robert Lafferty smothered the ball.  The turnover put Woburn on the LBH  42.  A false start pushed the Trojans back to the 47, 1st and 15.  Svelty carried left for 9 yds on first down.  The next three downs saw no gain.  LBH took over on downs.
LBH would go four and out to close the third quarter.  The defensive stand was highlighted by Thompson.  The middle linebacker demolished the LBH running back as he took the handoff.  Woburn took over on the LBH 44 to start the fourth quarter.
Two stuffed runs and an incompletion left Woburn facing 4th and 10.  RB Duran took the handoff and rolled left.  He stopped short and launched an aerial strike to a streaking Chiary.  He out ran the defenders and scored on the 44 yard bomb.  A conversion from Kingstad to Zolubos was successful, Woburn now led 25-0.
As the game wound to a close, lineman Matt Qualey made two more solo stops.  On the final play of the game the LBH QB tried to go deep again.  Linebacker Duran made an acrobatic interception to put the conflict to rest.  Final score Trojans 25 Raiders 0.
The Trojans road show continues next week in Reading @ 9:30a.m..
