Our community-wide reading event, Woburn Reads, asks people to read Barbara Shapiro’s book The Art Forger, a literary thriller. Come and share your views and comments about the book with others. We’ll talk about Claire Roth:  artist or forger? Did she do the wrong things for the right reasons?  What does the book say about celebrity and fame?

Incidentally the day we’re having our discussion is the 24th anniversary of the infamous heist from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. At 1:24 in the morning two thieves dressed as policemen stole 13 pieces of art, which have never been located. The art is currently valued at $500 million. It is the largest art theft in history. About a year ago the FBI announced they knew the names of the thieves but would not identify them.

Later this week you can visit with The Art Forger author, Barbara Shapiro, and ask her questions about the book. Her presentation will be at the Joyce Middle School auditorium on Thursday, March 20, at 7 PM. Books will be available for purchase and signing. This event is hosted by the Burbeen Free Lecture Series.
