Please vote for Mike Concannon for Alderman at Large on Tuesday November 5th.

“It is with great pride that I announce my candidacy for the position of Alderman at Large in the upcoming municipal election. As a lifelong Woburnite, I have a deep commitment to this city and a strong desire to serve my community. I believe that my personal and professional experiences have prepared me to represent the citizens of Woburn on the City Council.

“I was born at the Choate Hospital and grew up on Hilltop Parkway. I went to Woburn Public Schools, graduated Woburn High with the Class of 1982 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at UMass Lowell.  During my time as a student at UMass Lowell, I attended and graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy.  While serving as a Trooper, I furthered my education by attending Suffolk University Law School at night. I graduated in 1996 and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar later that year.

“I served as a member of the Massachusetts State Police for over 26 years, retiring at the rank of Major with an Honorable Discharge in 2012. I was fortunate to have had several assignments with the State Police where I gained invaluable leadership, management, and decision-making experience.  Included among those high-level assignments were posts as Troop Commander, Chief of Staff to the Superintendent, Director of Aviation Security at Logan International Airport, and as the Undersecretary of Public Safety for Law Enforcement. Since my retirement from the State Police, I started my own consulting firm; providing safety, security, and strategic advice to businesses and government agencies. I also serve as an Adjunct Professor at UMass Lowell.

“25 years ago this fall, I married my high school sweetheart, Annmarie (Foley).  In 1988, we bought our first house on Briarwood Road in North Woburn. Then in 1998, we moved to Rose Farm Lane in Central Square, where we live today. Woburn is where we chose to raise our family of five children, (PJ, John, Tim, Bobby, and Katie) and we intend to remain here. We have owned a home and have paid taxes in Woburn for 25 years.

“I’ve been committed to serving my community for more than 30 years. During college and for several years later, I coached a Woburn Recreation League Basketball team. After getting married and starting a family, I went on to coach Woburn Little League Baseball, Woburn Youth Soccer, and Woburn Youth Hockey teams. In addition to coaching, I’ve also been involved in the city as a 15 year member and Past President of the Woburn Host Lions Club, (where I led the effort to create Lions Park at Horn Pond), as a member and Past Director of the Friends of the Woburn Public Library, and as a member of the Wyman School PTO, School Council, and Principal Search Committee. I’ve also served as a member of the St. Anthony’s Church Festival Committee.

“It is my goal to use my life experiences to bring a more professional approach to addressing the issues facing our community- so that we can keep Woburn affordable, desirable, and safe. These are critical times for our city and several tough decisions are looming. I am prepared to make those decisions and I will be guided by certain core beliefs. I believe in being careful with the people’s money, I believe in maintaining a high level of city services and in fostering a strong sense of community, I believe in the value of education, I believe in a balanced approach to development, I believe in treating all city employees like the professionals that they are, (and requiring the same of them), and I believe in ensuring the safety and security of all of Woburn’s citizens. I also believe that civility, common courtesy, and mutual respect should be the norm when conducting the people’s business.

“In closing, I respectfully ask for your vote for Alderman at Large on Tuesday November 5th. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at electmikeconcannon@gmail.com.
