Flag as Inappropriate

The Altavesta Elementary School, built in 1969, operated grades kindergarten through five. Twelve classroom teachers are on staff, as well as four special-education faculty members. The new school was named for Mary Dolores Altavesta, who along with her husband owned a grocery store in the city. In addition to managing the store, Mrs. Altavesta was known in the community as someone to depend on.
