Vermont novelist and New York Times Bestseller, Chris Bohjalian delivered the Commencement address to degree candidates. George Chaffee, Vermont's captive insurance association founder, spoke on behalf of the two honorary degrees that were conferred. Bohjalian, received a Doctor of Fine Arts honorary degree; Chaffee, received a Doctor of Commerce honorary degree. Today's Patch Snap comes from Cambridge Savings Bank, which recently held an educational program at Malcolm White School to "Teach Children to Save." Cambridge Savings Banks (CSB ) said this about the program: “Teach Children to Save” coincides with National Financial Literacy Month. The lesson encourages students to make a habit of saving money from an early age. CSB has engaged Malcolm White School students in its creative program for the past three years. Woodshop area damaged in January fire expected to be back in use around the start of the next school year thanks to students' work, including Woburn students.
Back in January, firefighters from Wakefield and four surrounding communities put out a fire at Northeast Regional Vocational School that left significant damage to the woodshop area and which at one point had flames showing from the roof. The fire-damaged area is expected to be ready for the start of the next school year - and some current electrical and carpentry students, including students from Woburn, will have the distinction of having worked to repair their own school. According to Principal David DiBarri, the roof was repaired shortly after the fire to prevent further damage from the elements. More comprehensive repairs are still in the bidding process, he added.
