Do You Have a Stanley Cup Prediction?

Boston Bruins take on the Chicago Blackhawks in game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals tonight at 8 p.m.

The funny thing about the Bruins playing the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup is that several years ago, I actually started rooting for the Blackhawks as one of those "other" teams you kind of like during playoff bids and whatnot. An article this morning in the Chicago Tribune notes that the Bruins vs. Blackhawks is the first "Original Six" Stanley Cup series since the Bruins won the cup against the New York Rangers in 1972. The Blackhawks are a formidable team, but so were the Pittsburgh Penguins, who just got swept by the Bruins in a thrilling series, especially games 3 and 4. Sidney Crosby of the Penguins is a household name among hockey fans, even if his playoff mettle was widely questioned - he finished the regular season third …

Deval Patrick Makes Stanley Cup Bet with Governor of Illinois

The pair of governors have agreed to a bet over hockey's greatest event, with the loser to volunteer at a food pantry in the winner's state.

Massachusetts and Illinois will be fixated on the Stanley Cup finals over the next few days, and it appears the governors of those states will be as well. This morning Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick announced the wager made including himself and Illinois governor Pat Quinn over the outcome of the series between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks. Under the terms of the wager, if the Bruins win, Quinn will volunteer at the Greater Boston Food Bank. If the Blackhawks win, Patrick will volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Both governors exchanged some good spirited trash talk along with the announcement. “I look forward to seeing the Bruins circle the ice with the Stanley Cup above their heads,” said Patrick. “And I…

Woburn Softball Team Learns Playoff Opponent

It's playoff time for the Lady Tanners as they hit the diamond for at least one more game.

The Woburn High School softball team recently finished up a strong regular season campaign. Next stop, the playoffs. Following a 12-8 year on the diamond, the locals snagged the No. 13 seed in the North Division 1 tournament as was revealed on Tuesday by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. Thanks to that mark, the Lady Tanners earned a home game that is scheduled for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Woburn will host Bishop Fenwick, which grabbed the No. 20 seed in the postseason behind an 11-11 record this year.

After a rough start to the season the girls turned things around and went 10-3 in the last 13 games. It has been fun watching them play and I hope they can continue playing like they have been in the playoffs! It has been a total team effort with great hitting, fielding and base running. Tanners Lacrosse Earns Critical Win Over Wilmington

Woburn bounced back from an early Wildcat push and went on to a 10-6 victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Ken Blaszka will be on the sidelines for the Woburn High School boys lacrosse team. But for the last week of the season, he knows there’s not much coaching he has left to do. “At this point we aren’t putting anything new in the game plan. It’s take it to the cooker, score, and stop them,” said Blaszka, whose team needs two victories in its final four regular season contests to earn a playoff berth. “There’s no coaching at this point. It’s just who wants it. Hopefully we want it and we’ll make the tournament.” Woburn improved its playoff chances on Thursday when it took a lead into halftime and dominated the time of possession in the final two periods for a 10-6 victory. It was just Wilmington’s third loss of the season, while the victory …
