Local resident Connor Maloney, a goaltender for Division 1A state champion Malden Catholic, won a title for the second straight season as the Lancers won their third straight.
Connor Maloney had a tough start to the Division 1A boys hockey state championship. But the Woburn resident bounced back quite nicely. Though the Malden Catholic senior goalie let up a goal to Austin Prep just 14 seconds into the game, he made a huge save just seconds later and buckled down to help lead the Lancers to a third straight Super 8 championship on Sunday at TD Garden. It was the second straight season that Malone was in net for Malden Catholic after transferring from BC High. "First shot goals happen so I didn't even think about it. It happens and you can't worry about it," said Malden Catholic head coach John McLean. "The kids dug down and did what they're supposed to do."

WMHS student reporters Ally Mann and Jen Yao recap the season.
Woburn tied the game, lost the lead and tied the game again within the final two minutes of the game before losing in the 10th round of the shootout to St. Mary's on Sunday.
Sunday's Division 1 girls hockey semifinal was a 10-round slugfest. So was the shootout that eventually ended the Woburn High School season. Though the top-seeded Lady Tanners twice tied the game during a wild final minute-plus of regulation, St. Mary's of Lynn eventually came out on top of a 10-round shootout to advance with a 4-3 win. Trailing 2-1, standout forward Kayla Smith evened things up with a goal with 1:31 left to play. But St. Mary's recaptured the lead just 18 seconds later, seemingly sealing a berth in the state final. Erica Lissner, however, had other ideas as she extended the Woburn season thanks to the tying tally with 33.5 seconds to go. After a scoreless overtime, the teams went to a shootout. Regulation wasn't enough …

Austin Prep's roster includes sophomore defenseman Kevin Kiley as the Cougars are in the semifinal of the prestigious hockey tournament.
Austin Prep may be located in Reading. But the Cougars rely on help from all across the region as they skate forward in the Super 8 boys hockey tournament. The Cougars completed a sweep of Reading in the Super 8 quarterfinal series earlier this week, and the Cougars roster includes players with a wide variety of hometowns. According to MassHShockey.com, the team includes Woburn resident Kevin Kiley, who has not cracked the scorebook this year. He is listed as a sophomore defenseman for the team. Following the 1-0 victory on Wednesday night that capped the 2-0 series sweep, Austin Prep advanced to face either St. John’s Prep of Central Catholic in the semifinal round. There are six seniors on the Austin Prep roster, and 15 skaters who are …

Congratulations to Mallorie Mullaney and Reilly Medeiros, both of Woburn, on their success!
The Lady Tanners entered the final period versus Billerica tied on Tuesday, but used a pair of late goals to advance into the Division 1 semifinal round.
Woburn High School junior Emily Lissner netted three goals on Tuesday night, and the top-seeded Lady Tanners needed every one of them to escape upstart Billerica in the Division 1 girls quarterfinals. The locals earned the victory despite falling behind 1-0 early on and entering the third period tied at 1-1. Lissner's second goal gave Woburn a 2-1 edge with 10 minutes to play, and she added her final tally with just over eight minutes to go. Though Billerica scored with less than one minute remaining, it was too late and the Tanners survived. As a result, Woburn will take on St. Mary's of Lynn on Sunday at Chelmsford Forum with a berth in the state championship game at TD Garden on the line. Are you a big fan of the Tanners? You'll also …

The Lady Tanners skate in the Division 1 quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Stoneham Arena.
The quest to bring a state championship banner home to Woburn High School during the winter season comes down to one team. Top-seeded, and widely considered the favorite to win it all, Woburn girls hockey is the final Tanner team remaining in the postseason after the boys hockey team fell to Burlington, 3-2, on Sunday. The girls team opened with a first round bye before taking care of business with a 4-2 win over No. 17 Andover in the first round. Next up is a date with Billerica on Tuesday at 8 p.m. If the Tanners can handle the bracket's No. 9 seed, they will advance to play in the Division 1 semifinal round against either St. Mary's of Lynn or Austin Prep. Looking ahead in the bracket, the winner of that game will advance to play for …
