City Council approves request to ask the state legislature for eight more liquor licenses Tuesday.
City officials are petitioning the state legislature for more liquor licenses, which would be used in the Commerce Way area. The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to petition the state for eight additional licenses in what the city has zoned the "Commerce Way Overlay District." "This is another part of the puzzle to provide an economic opportunity in that part of our city," said Alderman-At-Large Richard Haggerty, who worked on the petition with Alderman Mark Gaffney. The petition is asking for eight licenses, which allow patrons to drink alcohol on the premises. Woburn Police and Fire responded to a report of a car fire on Commerce Way Sunday morning. According to police, a 911 call for a car fire at 30 Commerce Way came in at 3:44 a.m. Officer James Flynn was dispatched to the scene but did not see a car on fire at that address. He continued down the street when he was told by dispatch that the car fire was at 101 Commerce Way.
