CDC: Get Your Flu Shot

It's National Influenza Vaccination Week and this year is shaping up to be one of the worst flu seasons in a while. Did you get your flu shot?

  More than one-third of United States residents have already been vaccinated against the influenza virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Monday. With National Influenza Vaccination Week, which started last Sunday and ends Saturday, health officials aim to increase that percentage, especially since this year's season may be a bad one. Influenza—more commonly known as simply "the flu"—is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses infecting the nose, throat and lungs. It spreads via infected people coughing, sneezing or talking, though people can also get infected by touching something with the flu virus on it before touching their mouth, eyes or nose. Flu Clinic Rescheduled for Monday

Board of Health offering free flu shots to Woburn residents, age 5 and older.

  Although Hurricane Sandy derailed this week's free flu clinic for Woburn residents, the Board of Health has rescheduled the event for next week. The board will hold the free flu clinic next Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Joyce Middle School. The clinic is for anyone over the age of 5 who is a Woburn resident. Although free, you must show a health insurance card when getting your shot.  In addition to the city's flu clinic, residents can also grab a flu shot from several stores with pharmacies. Flu season typically begins in October and can run through May. Find out what you need to know to protect yourself and your family.

  With Halloween almost here, flu season has begun. How can you protect yourself?  Many health officials recommend arming yourself with a flu shot.  The Board of Health is holding free flu clinic next Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Joyce Middle School. The clinic is for anyone over the age of 5 who is a Woburn resident. Although free, you must show a health insurance card when getting your shot.  In addition to the city's flu clinic, residents can also grab a flu shot from several stores with pharmacies.  In Woburn, the CVS stores at 415 Main St. and the Woburn Mall are offering walk-in flu shots in the pharmacy.
