With the announcement that a Medford woman and Woburn man were arrested for running a prostitution ring, police said Monday was a major victory in shutting down the alleged pattern of "modern day slavery."
Law enforcement officials said Monday that a pair of human trafficking arrests were not only a major victory for police, but also the women at the center of the ring who are considered the victims of “modern day slavery.” During a Monday press conference at the Wilmington Police Department, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced that Xiu J. A New Jersey woman was arrested Thursday for prostitution at a local hotel. Maria Selma DeJesus, 36, of 31 Schalk St. Apt. #1 in Newark, NJ, was arrested and charged with sexual conduct for a fee and providing unlicensed massage/baths at a Woburn hotel Thursday evening. According to police, members of the Southern Middlesex Regional Drug Task Force were called to the hotel as part of a prostitution investigation. Police had information that DeJesus had posted an advertisement online, offering licensed massages in a Woburn hotel. At about 4:40 p.m. Thursday, police spoke to a man who acknowledged that he had paid a woman $100 for a massage and other services. At least she is earning a living. More than one can say for the others living at the Hotel. Others who are getting free housing, food, cable, indoor pool, Internet service, transportation, education etc..etc. Thank your state reps for the great welfare state they are creating.
