The following article was submitted by Scoutmaster Dan Perenick, Troop 519, and Scoutmaster Joe Gibbons, Troop 502. On Friday November 30, 2012, a group of local scouts and leaders joined a contingent of sixty from the Boston Minuteman Council to travel to New Jersey to offer relief after Hurricane Sandy. Scouts and adult leaders from both Woburn Boy Scout Troops 502 & 519 joined forces and gathered well needed supplies from the generous citizens of Woburn. All of the cleaning supplies, warm jackets, hats, gloves, water, pet food and school supplies donated were added to all of the other supplies that scouts throughout the Boston area collected and filled a rental box truck for the trip south. On Friday evening the scouts and leaders …

It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near, than a brother who's far away. But in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be both the best of neighbors and the strongest of families. This past weekend, AOL and Patch employees took an opportunity to pitch in, packing two tractor trailers worth of food, water and supplies in Dulles, VA, and Baltimore. The donations are headed to Hurricane Sandy-ravaged areas in New Jersey and Long Island. Want to join the relief efforts? Hurricane Sandy's aftermath on Horn Pond.
We all know Hurricane Sandy did quite a bit of damage to Woburn's trees and power lines. Woburn Patch readers Maria and Rich Haynes went to Horn Pond Tuesday to see how our favorite walking spot fared during the storm. As you can see, some trees were felled and one bench is going to be a bit uncomfortable for a little while! Thanks, Maria and Rich! Do you have a picture you'd like to share with us for Photo of the Day? Remember, all POTD come from readers, so without you, we have no photos! Text them to 781-502-8325 or e-mail woburn@patch.com. We will publish your photos as soon as we can!

Officials focused on three neighborhoods affected by Sandy.
As Woburn recovers from the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, officials are working hard to get the city back to normal. But, all things considered, officials believe Woburn was spared from a lot of damage. Three neighborhoods experienced significant damages: "All the public safety agencies were well prepared and well staffed going into the storm and during the height of the storm," said Mayor Scott Galvin on Tuesday morning. Mayor Galvin reported that the city was in constant contact with NStar regarding the power outages and blown transformers in Woburn. As of Tuesday morning, about three percent of Woburn's NStar customers are without power. Bedford Road, which had a severe incident last night in which several residents were evacuated from …
Hurricane Sandy has dominated this week's news. But how did it compare to last year's storm: worse or not quite as bad?
As we come out on the other side of Hurricane Sandy's rain- and wind-lashing of New England yesterday, many of us are still enduring power outages. And in some cases, downed trees and wires. The storm came a year after the so-called 'Snowtober' storm left many Massachusetts communities without power. So which storm do you think was worse – Sandy or Snowtober? Share your thoughts in the comment box below!

Gov. Deval Patrick said Monday night that the MBTA will resume service on Tuesday and state offices will open at 10 a.m.
The Danvers branch of the state Registry of Motor Vehicles will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Gov. Deval Patrick said in a Monday evening update on Hurricane Sandy from the bunker at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Framingham. On his Twitter account, Patrick said that all Class D drivers’ test on Tuesday had been cancelled. Patrick also said non-essential state employees should show up for work at 10 a.m. and he is leaving it up to individual school districts to determine whether they will be open on Tuesday. On Sunday night, Patrick urged all school districts to close on Monday and Danvers took his advice. School is scheduled to be open in Danvers on Tuesday, as of 9 p.m. The worst of the storm is expected to …
