A letter from a resident who lives near Clapp School on the scheduled filming.
The following is a letter to the editor: I am a resident of Ward 1 and an abutter to the Clapp School. I found out from someone who saw the mayor’s Facebook page that we are going to have 13 hours of filming of a big Hollywood movie at the school next Tuesday starting at 6:00 AM. The mayor was so excited and saying how wonderful this is for the city of Woburn. He forgets that this neighborhood is part of the city and he never even discussed it with us. We had to find out on Facebook! I and the other neighbors of Hudson Street who are right next door did not get a notice and I didn’t know it was going to happen. The mayor’s office didn’t even inform my alderman and she found out when she got a notice delivered yesterday. The aldermen-at-…

Council of Social Concern' Karen Colatrella says the need for food donations is up over the last few years.
The following is a letter from Karen Colatrella, Woburn Food Pantry Director: To the Editor: A recent newspaper headline read, “Hunger Issues Persist Across Massachusetts”. It goes on to state that, according to a recent study by the Food Research and Action Center, nearly one out of six Massachusetts residents reported that they did not have enough money to buy food they or their family needed at some point in 2012. Project Bread’s most recent Status Report on Hunger also indicates that hunger and food insecurity are increasing. In addition, it reports that there is a widening gap between high- and low-wage earners. The incomes of affluent families have increased considerably, while low-wage earners have seen very little growth in …

A letter to the editor from Alderman Ward 6 Michael Raymond.
The following is a letter to the editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank Senator Ken Donnelly and Representative Jim Dwyer for arranging and Mayor Galvin for hosting and facilitating the New Boston Street Bridge site visit and informational meeting with Secretary of Transportation Richard A. Davey on Wednesday, March 6. The New Boston Street Bridge due to a fire was closed in the 1970’s. One of my priorities when I was first elected Alderman of Ward 6 was to see that the bridge was rebuilt. When completed the bridge will provide a critical link for both regional and local traffic, along with vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle access to the Anderson Regional Transportation Center from the South and West, improving connectivity…
We would love to have a robust Letters to the Editor section on the site; here is how you can help.
It’s a question we get asked a lot: “How do I submit a Letter to the Editor?” With the water meter issue underway and a discussion on medical marijuana dispensaries coming up and a special state election in a couple months we'd like to hear what you have to say. (Don’t get us wrong, Letters to the Editor don’t have to be political. Sometimes the small issues resonate the most.) There are two ways to submit a Letter to the Editor to Woburn Patch: 1. As a blog post. Submitting a Letter to the Editor as a blog post is easy (really as simple as writing an email) and immediate (as soon as you hit “Approve,” it’ll be live on the site). If you plan on submitting multiple letters over time, submitting them as blog posts will also allow you to …

A letter from Ward 1 Alderman Rosa DiTucci.
The following is a letter to the editor: Sunday, I drove through each street in Ward 1 to check on conditions. The vast amount of snow that had been plowed was impressive. I would like to commend the DPW for its hard work and effort to keep our streets open and our city safe. They worked through the night and day while most of us were safely in our homes. And they are still working now in order to make it possible for people to traverse our streets and go about their business. I also want to thank the residents of Ward 1 who were out there helping their neighbors and were doing their part to get the storm behind us. I was struck by the fact that the people I talked to didn't complain in spite of the difficult conditions. Instead they …

A letter to the Editor from Michael Raymond, Alderman Ward 6
The following is a letter to the editor: On January 30, I along with City Council President Paul Denaro and Aldermen Haggerty, Anderson and Gaffney attended an open house at the Monarch Homes assisted living community at 857 Main Street in North Woburn. Monarch Homes is an assisted living community offering residents with memory loss three levels of programs designed to cater to the individual needs of the resident in a state of the art supportive environment that is bright, cheerful and happy. During the tour I was impressed with the attention to detail that went into the interior design of the facility. For example, the colors of Monarch Homes are strategically chosen and placed to assist residents with way-finding to key locations and …

Alderman Mike Raymond offers letter to the editor, public on the 40B project.
Ledges of Woburn Update: To gain a better understanding of the proposed location for the Woburn Ledges 40B project, a site visit was conducted at 1042 Main Street on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 11 by the Board of Appeals (BOA). The BOA, petitioners, lawyers and residents were present. Woburn Public Media Center filmed the event and is now being played on your local cable TV station. Following the site visit the BOA reconvened in Woburn City Hall Council Chambers to conduct the monthly 40B meeting. Highlights of the meeting included final comments from both the petitioners and residents after which the public hearing process closed with no final vote taken. Deliberations will continue at the next meeting scheduled for Thursday, …

Horn Pond Day was a success.
I want to thank everyone who helped out with our Lions Horn Pond Day planning and production of our community event on June 9th. Our joint Lions cause raised money for Mass Lions Eye Research. We had something for everyone, young and old, to view or participate in that day. A big thank you to the Sturgis Street residents for being a “good sport” as their peace was disturbed in the early hours as crews set up for the day. Without the generous donations from our sponsors, Lions Horn Pond Day could not have happened. Earnhardt, Thank you for keeping me focused. I sincerely appreciate it. I thiink I got caught up in the mud slinging and instead of ignoring it, I fell into it! Appreciate it. To Jim, the neighbors (my friends) on Hudson Street got notice four days before it happened on Thursday. It was on Facebook and in the paper before the neighbors knew. If there was something going on in your neighborhood …   more ›
