Woburn Business Man Pleads Guilty to Insurance Fraud

Business did not correctly report payroll and employee numbers in an attempt to avoid insurance premium costs.

  A Woburn business owner has pleaded guilty on charges he failed to accurately report his total payroll or number of employees to avoid insurance premium costs last week. Edward App, 50, pleaded guilty in Middlesex Superior Court to charges of Workers’ Compensation Fraud (4 counts) and Larceny Over $250 (3 counts) on Nov. 26. App was sentenced to 2.5 years in the House of Correction, suspended for two years, and two years probation. He was also ordered to pay full restitution, according to a statement from Attorney General Martha Coakley. According to Coakley, App is the owner and sole proprietor of App Tree Inc. (App Tree), a tree service company based in Woburn. ‘Dangerous’ Man Released by Superior Court

A Woburn man is home, awaiting trial on several sex crimes against children.

  A convicted murderer charged with several sex crimes against children is living less than a mile away from two public schools. Thomas L. Bergeron, 57, of 40 Tremont St. in Woburn, is awaiting trial and was released Friday on house arrest by Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Kathe Tuttman. According to court documents, Bergeron was arrested and charged in July with eight sexual crimes against children:   Bergeron was arraigned in Woburn District Court July 13 and ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. At that time, court officials recorded that Bergeron’s complete case file was impounded and not available to the public. Burlington Woman's Sex Abuse Lawsuit Dismissed

Rosanne Sliney had claimed her uncle sexually abused her in Woburn several years ago.

  A Burlington woman’s sexual abuse lawsuit against her uncle has been dismissed. Rosanne Sliney, who grew up in Waltham but now lives in Burlington, filed a lawsuit earlier this year alleging her uncle, Domenic Previte, sexually abused her when she was a child between 1968 and 1977. According to the lawsuit, some of the abuse occurred at the Showcase Cinemas in Woburn. But, a Middlesex Superior Court Judge Thomas R. Murtaugh on June 27 allowed Previte's motion to dismiss the case, according to Sliney’s attorney, Carmen Durso. Murtaugh cited the three-year statute of limiations as the reason for dismissing the lawsuit. Woburn Man Indicted on Charges In Connection to Six Incidents in Woburn and Burlington

Matthew Pappas, 18, of Woburn, pleaded guilty to charges related to a Sept. 2010 string of armed robberies.

A Woburn man pleaded guilty to robbery charges in connection with six separate robberies and attempted robberies within a span of two days in Woburn and Burlington, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today. According to a release from the District Attorney, Matthew Pappas, 18, of Woburn, pleaded guilty to charges of armed robbery (3 counts), armed assault with the intent to rob (2 counts), masked armed robbery, and assault with a dangerous weapon (6 counts). Middlesex Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Fahey sentenced the defendant to ten years probation with the conditions that he is ordered to remain drug free, undergo a substance abuse evaluation and mental health evaluation as well as follow up treatment, the …
