Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian stopped an assault in progress on Thursday immediately after he participated in the Harvard University graduation ceremony, according to the Boston Herald. Cambridge Police arrested Vincent Breveleri, 42, of Roslindale, on Thursday after Koutoujian, a Waltham native, broke up an assault in which Breveleri was allegedly involved. Police charged Breveleri with assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Before he detailed plans to improve his agency, Peter J. Koutoujian was sworn into his first elected term as Middlesex County Sheriff on Wednesday, Feb. 13. In front of a large audience of family, colleagues and friends, Koutoujian, a life-long Waltham resident and former state representative for the city, took the oath of office during a 4 p.m. ceremony at the LaCava Center at Bentley University. Koutoujian was elected to the post in November 2012 to fill the remaining four years of a six-year term. Gov. Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian followed through on a promise and delivered New England Clam Chowder to the Waltham-based REACH Beyond Domestic Violence on Tuesday, Jan. 29. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Koutoujian, who lives in Waltham, delivered the chowder to the domestic violence assistance organization to pay off the bet he made with Baltimore Sheriff John Anderson over the outcome of the AFC Championship football game during which the New England Patriots lost to the Baltimore Ravens. Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian is organizing efforts to improve support programs for corrections officers.
Corrections officers face many dangers in their work environment, but none may be more serious than the stresses they endure from years of working in such an extreme setting. To improve the health and wellness of corrections officers nationwide, the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office is launching a campaign to better support officers who feel the heavy burden of their jobs. One part of the effort will be a conference to share ways to assist corrections officers facing mental or physical job-related stresses, according to the Sheriff's Office. A Somerville man arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine while working for the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department was arraigned in Woburn District Court this morning. The Middlesex District Attorney's office reported that the defendant, Michael Dell’Isola, 51, was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail with the condition that he stays away from the Sheriff’s Department by Judge Paul Yee. His next court date is June 8 for a probable cause hearing.
