Rally Against Cancer - Woburn Relay for Life Kick-Off Event Tonight

The Woburn Relay for Life planning kicks off tonight with a meeting at St. Anthony's Club.

Cancer directly affects millions of Americans a year and indirectly affects us all. A local group, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, is inviting the community to join them in taking a stand against this disease. According to the Woburn Relay for Life coordinators, planning for this year's relay will kick-off with a party tonight. The event begins at 6 p.m. this evening at St. Anthony's Club. According to the Woburn Relay, dinner will be provided by The Restaurant.   The committee for the Relay For Life of Woburn would like to thank St. Anthony’s Club of Woburn for hosting the first fundraising event for Woburn’s 2013 Relay.  The fundraiser was the third Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser that was hosted by the Club with all proceeds from this year’s event going to the American Cancer Society. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, live entertainment and were also able to try their luck on winning one of the dozens of great raffle prizes. The event raised over $2,000 for the Relay For Life of Woburn to go to the Society’s breast cancer research efforts. Relay for Life Starts Tonight at Library Park

  The annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life will be held in Woburn tonight and tomorrow—rain or shine. Nearly 300 walkers will take part in this year's event, which begins tonight at Library Park. Teams Walk and Walk and Walk During Relay for Life

The cancer society's Woburn event raised about $46,000 with 36 teams over the weekend.

Katie Sullivan and her teammates walked in circles—ovals, actually—for a total of seven hours between Friday evening and Saturday morning. By 5:40 Saturday morning, Sullivan and some other members of the Keystone Club were ready to sleep. The team raised at least $3,000 for the American Cancer Society in its fifth Woburn Relay For Life, this year’s third-highest team total, according to the team. The Intrepid Keystone Club team from the Boys and Girls Club was one of 36 teams that participated in this year’s walk, according to the cancer society’s Rebecca Harnois. The event raised a total of about $46,000, Harnois said. The goal of the relay is to have at least one team member on the track for some 12 hours, according to the cancer society…

Relay for Life Starts Tonight

The annual event will begin at 6 p.m. at Library Park.

The American Cancer Societies' Relay For Life is once again making it's way through Woburn. Things kick off on the evening of Friday, June 10 at 6 p.m. with an opening ceremony and "survivor lap" featuring Mayor Scott Galvin and the Woburn Memorial High School Tanner Drumline at Library Park, across from the Woburn Police Station.  At 7:30 p.m., the "Fight Back" ceremony will be held, with guest speaker Sen. Ken Donnelly.  The "Luminaria" ceremony will be held at 9 p.m. "This is our remembrance ceremony where we light the candles," said Rebecca Harnois of Relay for Life. The team work of the event then takes place. One member from each of the 63 relay teams will take turns walking or running until the event is over. There will be a closing…
