Three lanes were closed to traffic until the scene was clear, and three people were transported by ambulance to the hospital, according to Twitter user Mike Moura. According to Mass State Police, traffic will be impacted for awhile in the Wilmington, Woburn area.
Updated at 11:19 a.m.: Massachusetts State Police have released an update on the accident, and said traffic will be impacted for "some time." "Three lanes and the breakdown lane have been closed," the release said. "The operator of the truck has sustained some injuries and will need to be extricated from the cab. The extent of the injuries are not entirely known but not expected to be fatal." According to police, troopers from the State Police Barracks in Andover, Massachusetts Department of Transportation and members from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section are all on scene. Updated 4:15 p.m.: Dave Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police Media Relations Unit told Patch police have closed the right lane on Route 93 North to allow Woburn and Reading firefighters access to perform firefighting operations. Mass State Police investigate single-car crash.
An Everett man was killed early this morning in a single-car crash on Route 93 North near the Woburn city line. According to the Massachusetts State Police, 35-year-old Oscar Lopez's car left the roadway and struck a rock ledge near Exit 36 at 1:30 a.m. Monday. The accident caused severe damage to the front of the vehicle, and Lopez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered traumatic injuries, said MSP Spokesman Dave Procopio. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene. The right travel lane and breakdown lane at the crash scene were closed for about two hours during the crash investigation, said state police.
