Woburn Beats Winchester in Thanksgiving Football Game

108th meeting between the rivals goes to Woburn.

  For the 108th time in history, the Woburn Memorial High School Tanners took on the Winchester Sachems on Thanksgiving Day. The traditional football game belonged to Woburn, as the Tanners won 32-14. The Sachems dominated the first quarter, scoring twice for a 14-0 lead. But the second belonged to Woburn. The Tanners scored 20 points in the second quarter, ending the half at 20-14. Woburn won the ball to start the second and continued to dominate. WMHS player Pat Doherty grabbed a five-yard touchdown in the third, bringing the score to 26-14 (the two-point conversion failed). The Tanners began to pull away in the late third, going into the fourth with the score remaining 26-14. Woburn scored again in the fourth, 32-14 with 8:29 left in …

Local Traffic Enforcement Ramps Up During Holiday Season

Troopers from all over New England want to help local drivers stay safe and prevent crashes during the holiday season.

  The holidays are upon us, and many residents will be traveling this week to see family and friends all across New England. State Police are doing their part to help ensure these visits don't end in tragedy because of impaired or distracted driving. The Massachusetts State Police joined forces with other New England State Police divisions at headquarters in Framingham to explain their C.A.R.E (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) program. Increased patrols this week will be cracking down on impaired/drunk driving, texting while driving and seatbelt law violations, among other things.   While many choose to have a large Thanksgiving meal at home with family, more and more people are opting to dine out for the holiday repast. Several Woburn restaurants will be open next Thursday, including: Note: The 99 Restaurants, both on the West Side and near the Woburn Mall; Polcari's and Applebees are closed on Thanksgiving Day. We've been through a lot this year, Woburn. What are we thankful for?

While Thanksgiving traditions across America include sharing a bountiful meal with family—normally a turkey—and watching community parades, many take time out of their day to remember what they are thankful for from the last year. We here at Woburn Patch thought we'd do the same this morning, before we all settle in to watch Woburn beat Winchester and enjoy our dinner with family.
