In solemn observance of Veterans Day.
Woburn's John Concannon, a 2012 Woburn Memorial High School graduate, and current student at West Point, attended the Veterans Day memorial dedication Sunday. Do you have a picture you'd like to share with us for Photo of the Day? Remember, all POTD come from readers, so without you, we have no photos! Text them to 781-502-8325 or e-mail woburn@patch.com. We will publish your photos as soon as we can!
Downtown Woburn was flooded with people who came to honor the men and women of our armed services; thousands pay their respects and dedicate a new memorial.

While our troops continue to battle enemy occupants in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom (our longest war to date); Woburn paid tribute to our men and women in uniform with a host of rousing speeches climaxing with the unveiling of a one-of-a-kind memorial, the only of its ilk to include a list of all the veterans from one community who served in all wars throughout our nation's history including the 294 who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Representatives from the Air Force, Navy, Army and Marines each …

As we observe Veterans Day today, we thought it would be nice to create a gallery of our veterans. If there is a local veteran you would like to honor today, we invite you to share a photo so the whole city can honor those who serve our nation. Just click the green "Submit Your Photos" button above the photos or at the bottom of this article to add yours, along with a caption. Also, leave shoutouts to veterans you know in the comments below. We've kicked off the gallery with a few photos of our own, including Local Editor Danielle Masterson's favorite veteran—her big brother, Chuck, who served in the Navy during Desert Storm and is still a Reservist today.
Here's what's open and closed for today's holiday observance.

Veterans also honored this past week.
Her father went off to war. So did her husband, two sons, brother and many cousins. Their collective service spans more than half a century, from World War I, which was supposed to be the war to end all wars, to Vietnam. That’s why Margie Labedz put on her blue auxilian’s uniform Thursday and headed to the Senior Center: to keep veterans “alive in the public’s eye,” so people “will remember the men and women who went overseas for us.” Woburn is commemorating Veterans Day 2012 with a series of events at schools and the Senior Center. Today, Nov. 11, the eleventh day of the eleventh month, when an armistice—or truce—was signed by nations fighting World War I, 94 years ago, the city will hold a traditional parade and ceremony on the …
