Woburn Softball Drops Opening Game

After cruising to the District 13 championship, Woburn will have to bounce back from an early loss in the state's Section 2 tournament.

After winning the District 13 championship last Thursday, Woburn’s 11- and 12-year-old softball team stumbled out of the gate Wednesday in the state’s Section 2 tournament. Woburn was no-hit in its opening game at Weafer Park by Lynn Wyoma’s Michaela Hamill. However, despite the 4-2 loss, Woburn remains in contention in the double-elimination tournament, as they’ll play in the loser’s bracket at 5:30 p.m. tonight back at Weafer Park. Hamill led the victors, who played as the home team, with six no-hit innings, which included nine strikeouts. She also went 3-3 in the leadoff spot, with two doubles and an RBI single.
