Your last chance is this week!
Welcome to Last Chance, a feature that previews upcoming deadlines that you may want to know about. We’ll feature the latest deadlines to take a class, join a bus trip to Foxwoods or register to vote. Here are two important dates that Woburn residents will want to know this week. Your last chance to register for some Under-10 2012 Spring Soccer City League teams is Wednesday. Teams that are still looking for players are: Registration is $50. The season ends on June 10, according to the City League's website.

Will play in South Dakota.
Woburn native Mitchell Clegg has signed a minor league baseball contract. Clegg, 25, will play for the Sioux Falls Pheasants of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. The baseball team announced that Clegg joined the Pheasants Tuesday after three years in the Washington Nationals organization. Clegg was signed by the Nationals after being drafted by the Major League Baseball organization in 2009. In his first year, the Woburnite was a mid-season all-star in the New York-Penn League. Last year, Clegg pitched for Potomac (Class A) as a starter and reliever, with a 4-7 record, 5.50 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 29 appearances. The Sioux Fall Pheasants season begins on May 17.

Bowdoin College senior breaks record.
Woburn resident Chris Martin was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Field Performer of the Week after a record-breaking performance. According to Bowdoin College, Martin recorded a 14.54-meter triple jump, breaking a 20-year-old record held by Jeff Mao (1992). Martin also posted a 6.75-meter long jump. The Woburnite claimed both the long jump and triple jump titles at the University of New Hampshire's Wildcat Invitational last weekend. "Chris has been working hard to make some great jumps this spring," said head coach Peter Slovenski. "He's healthy and strong, and he's running better on the runway. The final registration date for Woburn Pop Warner Football and Cheering is Sunday, April 22 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Woburn Senior Center.
